Do you know what type of mask you should buy for coronavirus？
Medical masks, medical nursing masks, medical surgical masks, medical protective masks, N95, KN95, 3M, etc. Regarding the names of the masks, people were dazzled and confused.
The common mask types can be divided into roughly 6 categories according to the standard of use
Medical surgical masks, medical protective masks, N95, FFP2 can be used for the protection of medical institutions, KN95 can not be used for medical institutions, but ordinary people can choose.
How to choose different types of masks? Today, I will introduce them to you, let you quickly choose the mask that suits you.
1.Medical masks / medical care masks
Medical masks and medical care masks belong to national standards, YY0969, and are mostly designed and manufactured by enterprises. Its composition is mostly non-woven fabric and filter paper.
Such masks cannot guarantee the filterability to pathogenic microorganisms and dust, cannot reach the filtration efficiency of particles and bacteria, and cannot effectively prevent the invasion of pathogens through the respiratory tract.
This type of mask is limited to a certain degree of mechanical barrier to dust particles or aerosols. It is generally used for routine care in hospitals, and the protective effect is not very satisfactory.
2.Medical surgical masks
Medical surgical masks must be produced in accordance with the medical standard YY0469-2011. If the enterprise standard set by the enterprise meets or exceeds the requirements of YY0469, it can also be printed on the outer packaging of the mask.
The surgical mask is divided into three layers: the inner water-absorbing layer, the middle filter layer, and the outer waterproof layer. Its filtering effect on non-oily particles should be more than 30%, and its filtering property on bacteria should be above 95 (non-N95).
It is suitable for the basic protection of medical personnel or related personnel, can prevent the spread of blood, body fluids and splashes, and has certain respiratory protection functions. Medical surgical masks can block most bacteria and viruses and reduce the risk of cross infection in hospitals.
It is mainly used in high-demand medical environments such as medical clinics, laboratories and operating rooms, with a relatively high safety factor and strong resistance to bacteria and viruses. It is mainly used to prevent the spread of influenza and respiratory diseases.
KN masks are mainly used to protect non-oily particles. According to the requirements of GB2626 standard, the filtration of non-oily particles is divided. Among them, KN90 is more than 90% for non-oily particulate matter above 0.075 microns, KN95 is more than 95% for non-oily particulate matter above 0.075 microns, and KN100 is more than 99.97% for non-oily particulate matter above 0.075 microns.
The requirements of KN type masks on filter materials are that the materials in direct contact with the face are not harmful to the skin and the filter materials are not harmful to the human body. The materials used should have sufficient strength and should not be deformed or damaged during normal service life.
The same series of masks as KN, and a KP series, what is KP?
KN is for non-oily particles, and KP is a mask for oily particles. KP90 / 95/100 is the same as KN90 / 95/100 in KN.
KN and KP masks are mainly suitable for oily and non-oily particulate pollutants such as dust, smoke, fog and the like produced by non-ferrous metal processing, metallurgy, iron and steel, coking, organic chemicals, gas, construction, and decoration. (Note: it can also be called a dust mask)
4.Medical protective masks
China’s medical protection standard is GB19083-2010. There is no N95 statement in this standard, but the classification of level 1, 2, and 3 is used to indicate the level of filtering efficiency.
Level 1 can meet the requirements of N95. In other words, as long as any medical protective mask that meets the GB19083 standard, it will definitely reach the filtration efficiency of N95 and KN95.
The difference between medical protective masks and KN95 is that medical protective masks also have “synthetic blood penetration” and “surface moisture resistance” parameter requirements. The protective effect of medical protective masks on blood, body fluids and other liquids was clarified, but these KN types are not available.
Therefore, KN-type masks conforming to GB2626 cannot be used for medical operations, especially high-risk operations such as tracheotomy and tracheal intubation that may splash.
Surgical masks in hospitals must all meet the level 1 and above of GB19083. It can achieve 95% filtration, and it can prevent liquid penetration.
After saying this, many people will also ask, what is N95?
The several types of masks introduced above, medical masks and surgical surgical masks follow medical standards, medical protective masks and KN models follow national standards, and N95 follows US standards.
The N95 mask follows the American NIOSH42CFR84-1995 standard (NIOSH National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health). N indicates oil resistance and 95 indicates exposure to a specified number of special test particles. The particle concentration in the mask is more than 95% lower than the particle concentration outside the mask. 95 is not an average, it is a minimum.
The filtering range is for non-oily particles, such as dust, acid mist, microorganisms, etc. Its application scope is the protection of airborne respiratory infectious diseases by medical staff and related staff, and the prevention of the spread of blood, body fluids and splashes during the procedure.
NIOSH certified other anti-particulate mask levels also include: N95, N99, N100, R95, R99, R100, P95, P99, P100, a total of 9 types.
Note: N—not oil resistant, R—oil resistant, P—oil resistant.
The technical requirements and test methods of the two levels of KN95 masks and N95 masks are basically the same, but they belong to different national standards.
N95 follows the American standard, while FFP2 follows the European standard.
FFP2 masks are one of the European mask standards EN149: 2001. They are used to adsorb harmful aerosols, including dust, smoke, mist droplets, toxic gases and toxic vapors, through the filter material, blocking them from being inhaled by people.
Among them, FFP1: The lowest filtering effect> 80%, FFP2: The lowest filtering effect> 94%, FFP3: The lowest filtering effect> 97%. If you use this data to select a mask suitable for this epidemic, the minimum is FFP2.
The filter material of the FFP2 mask is mainly divided into four layers, that is, two layers of non-woven fabric + one layer of solvent spray cloth + one layer of needle punched cotton.
FFP2 protective mask can protect very fine viruses and bacteria, with a filtration efficiency of more than 94%, which is more suitable for hot and humid environments or long-term protection.
Last question, what is a 3M mask?
“3M masks” refer to all 3M products that can be called masks. They can be divided into three categories: medical masks, particulate protective masks, and comfortable warm masks. Each type of mask has a different protective focus.
3M medical protective masks are made in China and imported. They have the protective properties of medical surgical masks and particulate protective masks. They are used in hospitals and can filter particulates in the air and block droplets, blood, body fluids and secretions.
Among 3M masks, the ones starting with 90, 93, 95, and 99 are highly effective masks for protecting against harmful particles. Both 8210 and 8118s meet the requirements of China’s PM2.5 protection. If you want to choose to meet the World Health Organization influenza protection requirements, choose 9010 , 8210, 8110s, 8210v, 9322, 9332.
Seeing this, do you know how to choose a mask during the epidemic?
1, can choose medical surgical masks, try to choose surgical masks.
2, can choose a mask without breathing valve, try to choose a mask without breathing valve.
